NORTHERN PSYCHE

In this 7 image series, photographer Daniel Blom explores the grand nature in his home state of Jamtland, Sweden. The narration of the landscape seek to comment on the importance of light, how the addition of light can alter the dynamic backdrop of peoples lives and how the inhabitants of this far northern region live without the light during the long winter months. Shot on 4×5 film, the images portrays snow covered lakes, mountains and forests in a isolated yet inviting setting. With analogue in-camera multiple exposure technique and on-location masking, the controlled distribution of light creates strong shapes and figures that adds another axis to the bi-dimensional space.

The technique used was simple double (sometimes triple) exposure with some big masks with the shapes cut out infront of the lens, all shot on my Linhof 4×5 camera. Really enjoyed the slow process working with this equipment and just great for the soul to be out there only creating something for myself.
